Serving the Future

Expanding Services: The need in our area continues to grow. This project, once completed, will enable us to double our capacity to provide food, shelter, and hope to single adults.

Improving Quality: The new facility has new shower and bathroom facilities, as well as an expanded food service area.

Making History: The Mission has stepped forward to serve wherever the need is since it was founded in 1911. From a soup kitchen in the Great Depression to a drop-in center in 2019. By joining us, you become a part of a legacy of service that spans more than a century in Michigan's capital area.

Knowing the need, we have been operating at and sometimes beyond our capacity, with numbers exceeding 240 every night.

Phase one increased services in our men's ministry, and phase two will increase again for single men and include space for single women. This would allow us to eventually increase services for women and children as well, at our current women and children's shelter.

This project is two former office buildings combined through an addition that sits on the 400 block of W. Kalamazoo. The new address, 415 W. Kalamazoo, is closer to downtown and several areas of greatest need in our community.

Purchase of the two properties on West Kalamazoo and construction and renovation costs were estimated at 10.6 million. This cost covered renovation of the facilities to include dorm rooms, offices, a warming kitchen, and cafeteria and construction of a significantly sized addition to secure and combine the two office buildings. This addition has state-of-the art bathroom and shower facilities to accommodate hundreds of individuals. The project will be completed in two phases.

We will be completed the project in two phases. Phase one, construction on the new addition and renovation of 415, finished in the summer of 2025, and we moved our men's ministry from Michigan Avenue on August 26 to this location. As we continue to raise funds, we continue with renovation on phase two, with the goal of completing work by the end of 2025. This will then require us to hire additional staff and create processes for accommodate the potential for 300+ guests.

This is an ambitious project but much needed. Monetary donations will enable us to begin meeting needs that are already growing in our community.
